Twins Moving & Storage history

The beginning of the moving industry

The human tendency to save for rainy days motivated people to accumulate possessions and build better and more livable homes. This eventually led to the establishment of the warehouse business, Which after time developed into an extensive and elaborate industry of warehousing throughout the United state. During the 1920s a lot of multi story warehouses constructed nationwide.

At some point Warehouse managers  tried to find a way to ship household goods cross country and at the time the only way to do it was by rail. Shipping household goods by rail became very expensive and the profit Margin was very low. In 1919 the idea of forming a moving company for dealing strictly with household Goods was born.

More and more moving companies start to appear and provide removal services and
Build alliances in order to provide a more efficient service. Back then the competition was on the quality of the service and what each moving company can provide in services.

In 1930 warehousemen start to form alliances with different van lines. Warehousemen did not want to deal with the transportation and The logistics of transporting goods. Today we call this alliances the agent system. And what we see today
Most moving companies provide warehouse and moving services.  the first company who start to use the agent system was here in Baltimore, the company name was the Baltimore Storage Company. Baltimore Storage company contacted mayflower Transit company to handle all of their shipments From city to city and cross country. After that more warehouses start to use the  agent system nationwide to take care of the transportation of household goods. After several years the market got bigger and the moving and transit companies provided their own warehouses for storing HHG. Today there are many moving companies nationwide some of the largest van lines have more than 300 locations in the continental U.S.A. Today there are thousands of moving companies nationwide to choose from.
